About Bridge to Integrated Living

At Bridge to Integrated Living, we provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, addiction, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Our mission is to help patients achieve lasting recovery by treating the whole person—not just the symptoms.

Led by Dr. Nathan Carter, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in General Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine, our practice offers expert evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of behavioral health and substance use disorders.

Dr. Carter earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed his Psychiatry Residency at Wake Forest University. He later completed a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry, further strengthening his expertise in the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. His extensive clinical experience, combined with a compassionate and patient-centered approach, creates a welcoming environment where individuals can receive high-quality care with dignity and respect.

At Bridge to Integrated Living, we believe successful treatment begins with understanding each patient's unique story. We take the time to build meaningful relationships, identify underlying causes, and develop individualized treatment plans designed to support long-term wellness and recovery.

Mental Health & Psychiatric Services

We provide evaluation and treatment for:

• ADHD
• Anxiety Disorders
• Bipolar Disorder
• Bipolar II Disorder
• Depression
• Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Dual Diagnosis / Co-Occurring Disorders

Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)

Treatment-Resistant Depression is diagnosed when a patient has not experienced sufficient improvement after at least two adequate trials of antidepressant medications, or when side effects prevent successful treatment.

Spravato® (Esketamine)

Spravato® is an FDA-approved treatment for adults with Treatment-Resistant Depression.

Treatment includes:

• Intranasal administration under medical supervision
• Approximately two hours of in-office monitoring following treatment
• Evaluation and ongoing support by a qualified psychiatric provider
• A treatment option for patients who have not responded to traditional antidepressants

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Many individuals struggling with substance use disorders also experience underlying mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD. Our dual diagnosis approach focuses on identifying and treating all contributing conditions through an integrated treatment model.

Rather than addressing mental health and substance use disorders separately, we provide coordinated care that targets the root causes of symptoms while supporting recovery from addiction. This comprehensive approach often leads to better outcomes and long-term success.

Addiction Treatment Services

We provide treatment for:

• Alcohol Use Disorder
• Opioid Use Disorder
• Benzodiazepine Dependence
• Stimulant Use Disorder
• Hallucinogen Use Disorders
• Compulsive Gambling
• Overeating and Food-Related Behavioral Disorders
• Other Substance Use Disorders

Our Treatment Philosophy

Research consistently demonstrates that the most effective treatment outcomes occur when medication management and behavioral therapies are combined. Because every patient is unique, we develop individualized treatment plans that may include psychiatric evaluation, medication-assisted treatment, psychotherapy referrals, recovery support, and ongoing monitoring.

Our goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps patients regain stability, improve quality of life, and achieve meaningful recovery.
